Jannis Kounellis (*1936 in Piräus), Mitbegründer und einer der wichtigsten Vertreter der Arte povera, konzipierte für die historischen Hallen der französischen Münzprägeanstalt ein neues, offenes Kunstwerk, das mit dem Ort eine Verschmelzung der besonderen und wortwörtlichen Art eingeht. Wie bei all seinen Arbeiten kommt für Kounellis der Raum zuerst ins Spiel, die Idee, ihn zu füllen danach.
