Ziel des Spiels ist es, durch geschicktes Ausspielen von Zahlenkarten andere Spieler in Fettnäpfe zu locken, indem man verbotene Werte vermeidet, die durch sogenannte Inselkarten repräsentiert werden.

Das Spiel besticht durch einen hohen Merk- und Rechenfaktor, da Spieler sich verschiedene Zahlenwerte merken und taktisch agieren müssen, um Strafkarten - sogenannte Fettnapfkarten - zu vermeiden. Mit einem gewissen Glückselement beim Nachziehen der Karten ist Fettnapf auch für Kinder ab 7 Jahren geeignet. Die Spieldauer ist mit circa 30 Minuten ideal für einen unterhaltsamen Spieleabend ohne lange Pausen.

Aufgrund seiner einfachen Handhabung und der interaktiven Spielmechanik eignet sich Fettnapf in Sicht besonders gut für gesellige Runden, in denen Kommunikation und Spielspaß im Vordergrund stehen.
