Tribal Rites is a musical autobiography of sorts from one of dance music's most dedicated historians, Bill Brewster. The compilation takes it's listeners on a personal journey through Bill's 36-year long involvement in the music industry. Whether running DMC's New York offices or labels including Twisted UK and Forensic, being one of Fabric's original residents, or writing (with Frank Broughton) probably the definitive overview of DJ culture, Bill's fingerprints can be found all over dance music's past few decades. Tribal Rites isn't just a "House & Disco Greatest Hits", it's the soundtrack to a life spent at the coalface of record collecting, of early mornings at car boot sales, and late nights logged onto Discogs. Split into three sections, the compilation begins in the post-punk period, and explores the influence of dub on bands like Urang Otan, General Strike, and The Raincoats. The second section takes you into that mish-mash of sounds and styles best described as "Balearic" where the likes of Bobbie Gentry and Final Edition can happily co-exist and a country and western cover of Hall & Oates "I Can't Go For That" seems obvious. The final section showcases what a broad church house music is, accommodating the spiritual yearnings of Mother Tongue and the precision tooled productions of Basic Channel's Maurizio. Tribal Rites is a vital reminder that there's a lot more to DJing than downloading the latest Beatport chart and waving your hands in the air. Presented as a triple CD set (ESK 508743) or over two double LP sets (ESK 508718 and ESK 508719).Triple CD version features: Agape, Brent Dowe & The Gaytones, Apatchi Band, General Strike, Gaffa, Urang Otan, Surprize, Deborah & The Puerto Ricans, P!off?, The Raincoats, Ruts DC, Motion, Peter Accident, Reggae Clinic 65, Jeff Duff, Bobbie Gentry, Latin Breed, Banzai, Freddi & Henchi, Aax Donnell & Eric Malone, The General, Final Edition, Sweet Potato Pie, Little Reuben, General Crook, Bill Brewster, Curtis Green, Nashville Rhythm Section, Dooley Silverspoon, Floyd Beck, Ströer, Mother Tongue, B. Excellent summary of a major scientific breakthrough that turns many accepted scientific paradigms upside down. Dr DeMeo's brilliant work allows the layman to grasp a completely new cosmology with direct and practical applications in daily life. Also Dr. DeMeo's brilliant work allows scientists to rethink those tenets at the foundation of current scientific worldviews and transcend those paradigms which are holding back real progress.Cheers to James DeMeo and, of course, Wilhem Reich's genius and unflinching courage, one more of history's crucified Jesuses.

empowers readers to take their first confident steps toward change
Format: Hardcover
In Drama Free, therapist and bestselling author Nedra Glover Tawwab addresses the emotionally charged dynamics of dysfunctional family relationships with clarity and compassion. Rooted in her experience as a licensed therapist, Tawwab outlines the ways that unhealthy patterns—such as manipulation, enmeshment, neglect, or boundary violations—can shape our adult lives. Through digestible chapters and relatable examples, she encourages readers to recognize harmful dynamics and begin the work of detachment and healing. This is not a textbook, but rather a conversation starter, meant to normalize difficult realizations and introduce healthier ways of engaging with family.
The book’s strength lies in its practicality. Tawwab’s tone is warm yet firm, offering readers common-sense strategies for setting boundaries, reducing contact when necessary, and managing guilt associated with stepping away from toxic behaviors. While she does not go into deep psychological theory, her approach is grounded in self-awareness and personal accountability. Readers are encouraged to name their experiences, resist minimization, and begin advocating for themselves—even if that means redefining what family connection should look like.
The key takeaway from Drama Free is that peace is a choice, and one we are allowed to make—even when it means going against cultural or familial expectations. Tawwab provides a solid foundation for anyone beginning the journey of healing from family dysfunction. Though the book may not satisfy those looking for an in-depth clinical guide, it offers enough wisdom and structure to empower readers to take their first confident steps toward change. It's an accessible and affirming read that underscores the power of healthy boundaries and self-respect.
