Cicada Carabiner (Chrome)Design The Cicada Carabiner was born out of a hyper fixation we had on the texture created on a Cicada wing. We wanted to create an aesthetic object that carried this texture into its design. A carabiner was an obvious choice as cicada wings naturally create a common shape used in climbing carabiners. The additional shape created by the hind wings of a cicada and other hemipteran insects was a design element that we couldnt resist implementing into
Design
The Cicada Carabiner was born out of a hyper fixation we had on the texture created on a Cicada wing. We wanted to create an aesthetic object that carried this texture into its design. A carabiner was an obvious choice as cicada wings naturally create a common shape used in climbing carabiners. The additional shape created by the hind wings of a cicada and other hemipteran insects was a design element that we couldn’t resist implementing into the final iteration.
The final result is a piece created by the hands of a designer and engineer with a passion for recreating organic objects. With the texture and shape of a cicada wing, a 100g solid zinc alloy carabiner is born.
