Look Inside the Book or Listen on Audible*

Huguenot Garden is a children's story of the daily and adventurous episodes in the lives of Rene and Albret Martineau, young twin sisters in a seventeeth-century, French Protestant family. This entertaining but moving story follows the twins and the rest of the Martineau family as they work, worship, commune, and suffer persecution together. This short novel by Douglas Jones aims to portray the ideas and historical details common to Huguenot life in La Rochelle, France, 1685, a tragic year whose final quarter brought the full wrath of Louis XIV.

Canonball Books is the children's imprint of Canon Press. At Canonball, we believe stories are soul food, so you can expect excitement, danger, loyalty, virtue, and family in your Canonball books. Feed your kids the right books!

What People Are Saying:

Winner of the C.S. Lewis Noteworthy Book Award, 1995

"Rich with details from the calamitous days of the Reformation in seventeenth-century France, the story opens our eyes to the personal passions and the human sacrifices that were necessary to enliven the principles of liberty.... Read this inspiring story aloud to your children. Then, read it again by yourself." -George Grant, World magazine

"The book serves as a gentle, kid-level introduction for children to the ungentle theme of persecution, which could have been quite a fearful subject, but does so without scaring them, being neither sugar-coated nor too graphically horrific. The author has chosen to underscore God’s faithfulness rather than the tyranny of men." -Homeschool Book Review

Douglas Jones was the senior editor Credenda/Agenda magazine and a fellow of philosophy at New St. Andrews College, Moscow, Idaho. He is also author of the children's books Scottish Seas and Dutch Color.

Heavy duty for sure
Color: Purple
Heavy duty toy. This ball has some weight to it! I have a smaller laber doodle that thinks she's a German Shepard so no toy is too big or heavy for her. She's been chewing on this for months but you'd never know it. The squeaker is even hard for me to activate with my hands. She hits it in the right spot every now and again and gets excited about it. Great if your not crazy about hearing a squeaker squeaking non stop!

All dog sizes can enjoy this ball!
Color: Orange
This is a terrific dog ball! Our Pittie can't tear it apart on day 2 which is unusual! Also, its big enough that he can't swallow it but not so huge that our mini Doodle can't enjoy it too! We have more than one of these to keep our pups busy!

Finally, a ball that made it!
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
I don’t know what is it with this ball, but it’s special. My dogs can absolutely tear up anything and this one seems like it can be chewed up but my dog loves it too much. He carries it all day, nibbles it and loves the squeaky sound of course. Finally found a winner!

Good size ball for my big boy
Color: Purple
My big boy loves this ball. He chews and chews and chews on it and it ain't made a dent in it. It's made a good quality rubber. It's got a squeaker in it. He hasn't managed to get it out which is not normal because normally he can get a squeaky out within 10 minutes. He goes through toys like I don't know what so it's being being a good. Really good ball. We've had it for about 2-3 months now and he hasn't been able to break into it and get squeaky out or even make a dent into it. That would tear up the the rubber
