The Extreme Networks ExtremeSwitching X690-48t-2q-4c is engineered for demanding enterprise networks where performance, reliability, and flexibility matter. This 1U switch combines dense copper access with agile high-speed uplinks to deliver a scalable solution for data centers, campus cores, distribution layers, and virtualization environments. Built to handle modern workloads—ranging from cloud-hosted applications to high-density workstations and surveillance systems—the X690-48t-2q-4c is designed to minimize latency, simplify management, and maximize uptime. With a comprehensive feature set, it provides robust security, intelligent QoS, and sophisticated traffic engineering to ensure predictable performance even under heavy load. The X690 integrates seamlessly into existing infrastructure, enabling organizations to grow without ripping and replacing core networking components. Whether you’re consolidating server resources, supporting virtual desktop infrastructure, or expanding campus connectivity, this switch delivers the reliability and scalable capacity required by today’s dynamic networks.

  • High-density copper access with flexible 1G/10GBASE-T ports: The X690-48t-2q-4c offers 48 auto-negotiating copper ports for easy, scalable access at the edge. These ports accommodate a wide range of endpoints, from desktops and IP phones to IP cameras and small servers, while preserving valuable rack space and simplifying cable management.
  • Dual high-speed uplinks for resilient, scalable connectivity: The switch includes 2 x 10G/40G QSFP+ uplink ports, enabling fast interconnects to aggregation layers, core fabric, or spine switches. This design supports flexible topologies, including leaf-spine configurations, and allows you to modulate bandwidth between access and core as demands change.
  • Additional high-performance expansion ports for future growth: Four 10G/25G expansion ports provide versatile options for aggregation, server rack uplinks, or edge-to-core connectivity. This forward-looking capability makes it easier to scale bandwidth without replacing existing hardware, helping you meet evolving workloads and virtualization needs.
  • Advanced switching features for enterprise-grade performance: The X690-48t-2q-4c delivers a comprehensive set of Layer 2 and Layer 3 features, including robust QoS, ACL-based security, VLAN segmentation, IPv6 support, VRF, multicast optimization, and virtualization-friendly controls. These capabilities ensure deterministic traffic behavior, secure isolation between tenants, and smooth multi-tenant operations in data centers or campus networks.
  • Engineering for reliability and efficient operation: Designed for continuous operation in demanding environments, the X690 emphasizes energy efficiency and thermal management, with a compact 1U form factor that fits neatly into standard racks. Quiet operation and reliable cooling help maintain favorable noise levels in data-center aisles or campus rooms, while serviceability features support fast field replacements and minimal downtime.

how to install X690-48t-2q-4c

Installing the X690-48t-2q-4c is a straightforward process designed to minimize downtime and accelerate deployment. Follow these best-practice steps to ensure a smooth installation and optimal performance from day one.

  • Plan your topology: Before rack-mounting, map out your network topology, including the placement of access ports, uplinks, and expansion ports. Decide on the primary path for edge devices, server connections, and uplink aggregation to avoid re-cabling later.
  • Rack installation: Mount the switch in a standard 19-inch equipment rack using the supplied hardware. Ensure adequate clearance for ventilation and cable management. Verify that the rack environment meets temperature and humidity specifications for optimal operation.
  • Power and redundant options: Connect the switch to an appropriate power source. If your model supports redundant power, install the secondary power supply and verify automatic switchover capability to minimize any potential downtime during a power event.
  • Initial cabling: Connect the 48 copper ports to endpoints (workstations, servers, IP phones, cameras, etc.) with organized cable runs. Route the 2 x QSFP+ uplinks to your aggregation or core devices, and position the 4 x 10G/25G expansion ports for future uplink or server connections as planned.
  • Management access: Establish management access through the switch’s management interface. Common options include a dedicated out-of-band management port or an assigned management IP on the in-band network. Use your preferred management tooling (CLI, web UI, or SNMP) to configure basic settings, including IP address, gateway, and administrative credentials.
  • Firmware and licensing: Update to the latest firmware and apply any required licenses or feature packs. Ensure that the switch boots with the correct feature set for your deployment (Layer 2, Layer 3, QoS, security, etc.).
  • Network configuration: Begin with a minimal, scalable configuration: define VLANs, assign 48 ports to appropriate VLANs, configure QoS policies for critical traffic, and implement access controls. Gradually enable routing (if required) and verify connectivity between endpoints, uplinks, and the core.
  • Monitoring and validation: Enable basic monitoring—port statistics, error counters, and health checks. Validate performance with representative traffic patterns and adjust QoS, buffering, and queue configurations to meet SLAs.
  • Documentation and handoff: Document the final topology, port assignments, QoS rules, and security policies. Share access credentials with the team and set up ongoing maintenance schedules to ensure the environment remains healthy and auditable.

Not indestructible, but pretty close!
Size: Yellow, Size: Yellow
I adopted a pit mix a little over a month ago, and so far he's managed to destroy every single toy he's had, including ones meant for aggressive chewers. He's a sucker for a good squeaky toy, and this had good reviews (and was affordable) so I decided to check it out. He's had his corn for a week now, and surprisingly, it's still holding up pretty well - though there are some caveats to that. My boy didn't even want to wait for me to take his corn out of the plastic bag, he too excited to get it. He went to town immediately, to the point where he was sitting in a puddle of his own drool after about an hour. He managed to squeak it (which I couldn't do myself), but still hasn't really gotten the hang of doing so - and the squeaker, when wet, does sound a little... Well, wet. He managed to have bite marks in it within the first six hours. Within a day, there were tiny bits of yellow rubber starting to appear anywhere that he played with this toy. A week later and there are some decent sized chunks missing from the corn - some of which I've had to cut off when they got loose and I worried about him choking on them. He loves his corn cob, and will likely get at least a few more weeks of play out of it before I have to toss it for his safety. I'm unsure of whether the squeaker is still functional, but he seems to love it whether or not it squeaks. Overall, it's not a bad toy for most aggressive chewers, but it will not last forever. The rubber is as heavy as the regular red Kong toys, but it feels slightly softer, which might contribute to his ability to break off little pieces. Make sure you keep an eye on your dog with this toy, or with any other, especially if they are chew goblins. But I'd definitely buy this toy again.

Solid piece
Size: Yellow
Border Collie loves it. Great for aggressive chewers. Prefers this to the carrot or the pineapple one. Probably better for large dogs than my medium size dog as there is some heft to it.

Great chew toy!
Size: Blue
Great chew toy that dogs love! The toy is hard but also soft for comfortable chewing. The plastic is lightweight and does not leave sticky residue. It is super easy to clean so won’t leave the toy smelling like stinky dog!
