“Medicine can be different things to different people; it can be good, bad, drugs, a cure, the answer or the problem.” Says Chris Bainbridge, one half of Edinburgh-based Mon of Moon when discussing the title of the band’s debut EP. Mikey Reid makes up the other half of the group who, at 19 years old, decided to quit college and pursue music, such was the deep-set sonic bond the two had made when fusing their ideas and talents.

In 2015 they released their debut single, led by the A-side of ‘The Road’, it was a gliding, motortik-driven piece of neo pop psychedlia, produced by Frightened Rabbit’s Andy Monaghan. Picking up a healthy dose of critical and fan acclaim along the way, the band had also pricked ears of other fellow Scottish groups, such as The Phantom Band and the Twighlight Sad, the latter of whom invited the duo on tour, twice. On this EP they return to working with Monaghan, “It was a lot easier getting takes down on this EP, we went into the studio more confident and ready to record again. After having worked with Andy before, it was easier to work with him for a second time.’ Says Bainbridge

It’s a confidence that shines throughout the EP’s four tracks. The shimmering psych glow of their previous material being developed into more structured, multifaceted, textured and slightly more aggressive songs, “We had been listening to a lot more heavier stuff before we went into the studio. It wasn’t intentional to make it heavier, we are still writing songs with atmospheric elements. This EP just represents the louder side of our music.” Whilst there are unquestionably louder moments there too are more sombre, quieter moments too, songs that reside in states of tranquillity and reflection, allowing gentle guitar lines to linger amongst the thick ambience of the production. Given some of the themes of the EP, such pace, space and occasional pathos is understandable, “The EP is about my family, my pals and loss. The sea is a running theme throughout music.” Says Bainbridge who grew up in a small coastal dwelling on Scotland’s East Coast. In the same way the moon influences our tides, the ebb and flow of the North Sea is a constant inspiration for the group.

Man of Moon are still in a formative state as a band but they already feel like they have slipped seamlessly into the rich lineage of British guitar music that precedes them, Medicine feels like the next step up the mountain, which only adds to the brimming sense of excitement and anticipation as to where this band will go next.

Small fan, serious power
Color: Black
I bought the Honeywell Turboforce Fan for my bedroom, and I’m honestly impressed with how powerful this little thing is. Don’t let the compact size fool you — it moves a lot of air. On the lowest setting it’s perfect for a gentle breeze while sleeping, and the higher settings can easily cool down a medium-sized room or help circulate AC much more efficiently. The 90-degree pivoting head is a great feature. I can angle it upward for better air circulation or point it directly at me when it’s extra hot. It’s lightweight, easy to move around, and doesn’t take up much space on a desk or nightstand. It can also be wall-mounted, which is a nice bonus. Noise level is reasonable. On low, it’s actually a pleasant white noise. Medium and high are louder, but not in an annoying way — just the sound of strong airflow. Build quality feels solid for the price, and it’s been running daily without any issues. For the cost, this fan seriously overperforms. If you need a compact, affordable, and powerful fan, this is a no-brainer. I’d absolutely buy it again.

Great powerful little fan, good deal.
Color: Black
Nice powerful fan, good price! larger than an average desktop fan, keeps the air moving, and is fairly quiet.

Good value for a powerful fan.
Color: Black
Powerful fan. It’s just a 100 square foot room but you can feel the fan clear across the room. The unit feels durable but it is also extremely lightweight. Easy to move room to room. The fan can face straight ahead or angle to face upwards. It is easy to change the angle of the fan, simply tilt the body and it clicks into place. It does not face downward. When faced upwards it does well to circulate air around the room. It is somewhat loud on higher settings but that is to be expected. At $14.99 this was priced a bit lower than similar units. It’s a good value so far as it is performing well.

Reliable Cooling Power for My Workspace
Color: White, Color: White
This Honeywell TurboForce fan has been a perfect addition to my home office on Staten Island, providing a surprising amount of airflow for such a compact unit. The three speed settings allow me to adjust the intensity based on how warm the room gets, and I’ve found the 90-degree pivoting head incredibly useful for circulating air without having it blow directly on my desk papers. It runs remarkably quietly even on the highest setting, which is essential during long focus sessions or video calls. The white finish looks clean and professional on my tabletop, and the overall build quality feels sturdy enough to handle daily use throughout the summer months.

Small but powerful
Color: Black
This is a small but powerful, 3-speed fan with a 90 degree pivoting head. It's also good looking, lightweight, sturdy, and quiet. The controls are easy to reach and manipulate. The lowest speed was actually too powerful for the location I had in mind for it but I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to cool a room. You can easily cool a small room on just the lowest setting. I'm sad I have to return it but I need something a little less powerful for my desired location.
